Death to "Death Before Decaf” | Swiss Water® Process

Remember when people declared “Death Before Decaf!”? We’re happy to announce those days are over, as negative notions about decaffeinated coffee are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Once upon a time, people believed that in order to give up caffeine, they’d have to sacrifice quality as well. Others simply thought: what’s the point?

Decaffeinated coffee has come a long way since its early days, and gone are the times where taste needs to be sacrificed to enjoy a good cup of decaf.  Today, the experience of enjoying coffee offers much more than a caffeine buzz—it’s a social event, a discovery of our favorite origins, a moment to appreciate the crop to cup journey. The list of possibilities goes on.

Why do people choose decaf?

Balancing energy, managing sleep hygiene, and caffeine awareness are today’s top factors leading people to consciously moderate caffeine intake— but no reason is reason enough to suffer through a poor-tasting cup of coffee. You already know that great coffee exists, and when coffees are decaffeinated with Swiss Water® Process, great decaf exists too. Always look for our logo, and check out our locator to find amazing coffee without caffeine near you.

Not all decafs are created equal

It’s important to acknowledge that not all decaffeination methods are created equal. Certain processes add chemicals, others use water or CO2, and then there’s us. Our process uses water, because as coffee lovers ourselves, we never want to change the natural flavorsof the wonderful coffees we start with. Starting with small batches, we use only water, temperature, and time, to selectively remove caffeine, while leaving the flavor and the character of the coffee untouched. Our operators work 24/7 to ensure beans leave our facility tasting just delicious as they came to us, and 99.9% caffeine free. Our 100% chemical free process allows coffees to maintain their organic certification as well.

Once the decaffeinated coffee leaves our facility, it continues its journey on to coffee roasters around the world, who use their skills to bring out the origin flavor of the bean, and serve you the incredible coffee that belongs in your cup. Like us, our customers have a passion for crafting exceptional decaffeinated coffee.

The bottom line

At the end of the day, we’re all coffee lovers—decaf drinkers and non-decaf drinkers. As far as we’re concerned, we’ve seen the death of “Death Before Decaf”. Indeed, decaf gives us life!
