Production Manager

Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Production

  • Manage silo-to-silo production of decaffeinated coffee including process monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to plan and meet production targets
  • Measure and report KPIs
  • Prioritize most important tasks as they relate to company goals
  • Develop and maintain production SOPs and standards
  • Understand company financial performance and how my work effects that performance
  • Adopt Operational Excellence practices to manage continuous improvement
  • Develop systems for process monitoring to facilitate troubleshooting and flagging process deviations
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and performance
  • Create business cases for capital and maintenance projects

Maintenance

  • Plan and execute shutdown activities as they relate to the production department
  • Manage equipment inspections and communication of maintenance issues to the maintenance department

Quality

  • Drive quality by adherence to internal and external standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality and product safety
  • Work with internal and customer quality managers

People

  • Champion operator engagement and culture by empowering operators and maintenance to take ownership of their processes and responsibilities
  • Management and development of direct reports (operators, trades, supervisors, engineers, contractors) where required
  • Projects, Engineering & Regulatory (In conjunction with Engineering Dept.)
  • Identify capital and maintenance projects where necessary
  • Work with regulators to ensure compliance with local jurisdiction (e.g. WorkSafe BC and TSBC)
  • Build relationships with regulators and inspectors

Risk

  • Continual management of operational risks
  • Identify and characterize threats
  • Prioritize risk reduction measures

Business

  • Understand variable and fixed costs related to production activities
  • Understand revenue sources, production L&E and P&L, company financial performance

Budget Management

  • Create and manage production operating budgets
  • Manage execution of budgeted activities
  • Environment and Sustainability
  • Improve water/power/gas consumption performance
  • Improve waste water and air emission performance
  • Become a leader in environmentally responsible decaffeination

Safety

  • Drive safety culture
  • Manage the safety program for the production department
  • Develop and manage permit systems

Experience:

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • Professional Engineer Status considered an asset
  • At least 5 years’ experience in process industry
  • At least two (2) years management experience
  • Knowledge of extraction and adsorption processes would management systems and processes

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, process modeling tools, statistical analyses tools)
  • Experience in process automation (logic design, programming)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Well developed interpersonal/communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Negotiating and budgeting skills
  • Knowledge of food science and technology
  • Travel may be required

People Management:

  • Responsible for day to day activities of group efforts to ensure smooth and effective work systems and procedures. Day-to-day management of any assigned human resources.

Performance Expectations:

  • Play a leadership role as a champion of the SWISS WATER® brand and the quality positioning of the brand
  • Keep abreast of new developments in related food science and process technologies.
  • Make decisions with a clear understanding of and focus on company objectives and goals.
  • Consult with specialized disciplines, including analytical chemistry, statistics, microbiology, engineering and production
  • Work effectively with other members of the Operations group to achieve corporate objectives
  • Involve others in decisions to build ownership for changes
  • Make appropriate recommendations and communicate relevant information in a timely manner as necessary ensure new technologies are effectively integrated and to ensure the company is in compliance at all times with regulatory requirements
  • Oversee the identification, testing and selection of process equipment and process control improvements
  • Continually develop coffee knowledge

Internal Interactions:

  • Works closely with Maintenance Manager, Quality Manager, Production Supervisor, and other members of the Operations Division
  • Interacts with the Senior Management Team

External Interactions:

  • Will interact with external vendors, suppliers, research community and external network within industry.

      Compensation:

      • $110,000 - $150,000 per year
