We know what you’re thinking—we keep telling you it’s time to take decaf coffee seriously, to treat it with just as much respect as coffee that includes caffeine. But decaf instant coffee? Can such a thing really be both delicious, clean, decaffeinated, and…well…instant?
Alongisde our partners at Joe Coffee Company, we’re proud to say: yes! Joe’s Specialty Instant Coffee launched last year in both the Daily blend and seasonal single origin varieties, which so far have included coffees from Colombia and Rwanda. It was such a success, Joe company recently introduced an instant version of its Nightcap decaf blend. To prepare it, all you need is a Joe instant sachet and water—hot or cold. Or even sparkling! Or even milk!
Joe’s specialty instant coffee is made in collaboration with Pennsylvania’s Swift Cup, whose proprietary technology preserves the nuance and flavor of specialty coffee in easy-to-use instant form. In the Swift Cup process, coffee is careflly brewed to a highly concentrated form, then dehydrated by freeze-drying. The result is a concentrated instant coffee that maintains a coffee’s flavor profile when rehydrated.
“We decided to do decaf instant coffee due to popular demand, says Lee Harrison, Senior Director of Coffee & Roasting at Joe. “When we released the Daily and the Colombia as instant coffee products, they were really well received, and the strongest feedback we got during the first few weeks after that was from customers in our retail stores wondering where the decaf instant coffee was.
“We have worked hard to be able to offer a high-quality decaf whole bean option and we were excited to develop it as an instant coffee product. Having reliable partners like Swiss Water and Swift Cup has made it easy to produce a product that we are proud of,” says Harrison.
Currently, Joe’s Specialty Instant Nightcap is made from a single origin coffee from El Limoncillo in Nicaragua. It has notes of almond, molasses, cola—and instant gratification!
