Process Engineer

We are looking for a Process Engineer to add to our team!

Reporting to:

Principal Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Principal Engineer, the Process Engineer has primary responsibility for both applied research/engineering and process development.  The incumbent is responsible for evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the production process.  Applied research responsibilities include investigation into specific applications such as improved quality of existing products, improved cost-effectiveness of manufacturing processes, new product lines or new areas of business. The Process Engineer allocates work activities within their area and reviews, identifies and directs the resources brought to bear on any given situation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides engineering services to the company
  • Establishes systems, programs and procedures to achieve engineering objectives effectively and economically
  • Manage all process engineering activities including continuous improvement of existing systems and procedures
  • Reviews and approves technical specifications as needed and ensures standard specifications/procedures and systems are used by disciplines
  • Plans and allocates all day to day work activities to ensure an efficient and effective operation
  • Reviews and evaluates technical works for plant instrumentation and controls on an ongoing basis
  • Develops and reports on operating metrics to the Operations group
  • Participates and provides input to the annual departmental expenditure budget
  • Develops and manages capital budget
  • Responsible for day to day activities of group efforts to ensure smooth and effective work systems and procedures. Day-to-day management of any assigned human resources.
  • Reviews, identifies, and participates in technical and safety training and acts as a technical leader

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in food, nutraceutical, cosmetic or fine chemicals industry
  • At least two (2) years engineering management experience
  • Knowledge of extraction and adsorption processes, particularly related to maintaining the integrity of the original matrix
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, process modeling tools, statistical analyses tools)
  • Experience in process automation (logic design, programming)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Well developed interpersonal/communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Negotiating and budgeting skills
  • Knowledge of food science and technology
  • Travel may be required

EDUCATION:

  • Engineering Degree either Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer Status

Laboratory Technologist

We are looking for a Laboratory Technologist to add to our team!

Reporting to:

Quality Assurance Manager

Key Responsibilities:

The Laboratory Technologist is a skilled worker who performs highly technical tests in the process control laboratory. The technician will prepare samples for analysis, monitor tests and procedures, analyze chemical content of coffee beans and carbon, calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments. The technician is also responsible for analyzing and summarizing the data collected.

  • Conduct routine sampling and analysis on raw, in-process and finished products.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and trouble-shoot laboratory and in-process lab testing equipment such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
  • Communicate quality information to department supervisor.
  • Prepare quality reports and communicate results.
  • Implement and maintain the lab QMS by documenting work instructions and standard operating procedures for any laboratory practices.
  • Be responsible for Certificate of Analysis
  • Monitor process critical testing – carbon testing, micro testing, OTA testing, etc.
  • Maintain all Swiss Water analytical data.
  • Provide interpretation and recommendation for process changes based on daily analytical data collected.
  • Assist with/maintain Safety and Environmental programs.
  • Communicate with external suppliers.
  • Provide in-house training for HACCP, GMP, GLP, Safety and Environmental programs and lab practices to operators and new lab-techs.
  • Perform internal audit/GMP inspections as scheduled.
  • Handle/Investigate customer complaints.
  • Maintain quality programs as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be knowledgeable in high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).
  • Must be familiar with laboratory procedures and analytical techniques.
  • Must be able to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to communicate well in writing and verbally with other individuals and departments.
  • Must be knowledgeable in personal computer hardware and software.
  • Familiarity with ISO, HACCP and GMP.

EDUCATION: Education requirements include Food Technology diploma, Food Science degree or equivalent.

COMPENSATION:  Rate: $ 23.17 per hour as per current collective agreement (UFCW)
